Winterizing Your Deck and Fence
Aluminum Decks
Aluminum decks are gaining in popularity, because they will not rost, rust, warp, splinter or crack. They are also extremely weather-resistant. The powder-coated finish on the aluminum planks last virtually forever. Aluminum decking is non flammable, will not attract wood-boring bugs and is cryogenically strong (will not get brittle in extremely cold weather). Aluminum is 3-4 times lighter than wood, composite or plastic lumber but yet it is 2-3 times stronger.
Pros of Aluminum Decking:
- Maintenance-free
- Non flammable
- Does not get brittle in cold weather
- 100% recyclable
- 3-4 times lighter than other decking materials
- 2-3 times stronger than other decking materials
- Planks can be cut with same saws and carbide-tipped blades used to cut wood
- Gap-free and watertight
- Self-draining channels collect and dispose of rainwater
- Space below deck stays dry
- Stays cool in the sun
